Sole Work: Shoes for Kids in Southwest Detroit

Sole WorkOn July 29th, it was a great experience when Pastor Melanie,  Pastor Beth and others from Nardin Park delivered over 83 pairs of shoes to the children of Centro Familiar Cristiano Church, a United Methodist Spanish speaking congregation in Southwest Detroit.  The children had their feet washed and dried, and a pair of new socks and new sneakers were put on their feet.

Jesus poured water into a basin and washed the disciple’s feet.  After he finished he said to them, “Do  you know what I have done for you?…If I your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.  For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.” (from John 13)

Samaritan Counseling Center

Directed by the Rev. Dr. Robert Martin, the main office of the Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeastern Michigan is located in our building. They provide restorative services of counseling and psychotherapy for personal and relational healing, as well as preventive opportunities through education for spiritual, emotional, and professional growth. Organized in 1986 by local congregations to provide quality therapy within the context of a client’s religious values, the center uses both theology and psychology while serving clients in an atmosphere of care and respect. In addition to counseling, they offer educational opportunities on such topics as preparation for marriage, vocational concerns, divorce and rebuilding, and professional training. They are a non-profit corporation, and able to accept many insurances; however, they also have a client assistance fund which enables fees to be set on an adjusted fee schedule based on income and circumstances. For information or to schedule an appointment, call the Center office between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, at 248-474-4701.
